Vol. 164 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on Tuberculosis Patients.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state in respect of 1956-57 the amount spent from central and local funds in respect of persons suffering from and recovering from tuberculosis.

The amount spent by health authorities from local funds on the Tuberculosis Service in the year 1956-57 was approximately £2,610,700. Half of this cost is recoupable by the State to local authorities from the Health Services Grant.

In addition to the foregoing, approximately £550,000 a year is paid at present as disability benefit by the Department of Social Welfare to persons certified to be suffering from tuberculosis.
