Vol. 164 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Freight Rates on Waterford Exports.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he has finalised the arrangements for bulk transport rates for fish exported from Waterford.

Yes, I am glad to be able to inform the Deputy that subject to the completion of some minor formalities the arrangements for the bulk transport of fish will probably come into operation towards the end of this week and, in any event, not later than early next week.

These arrangements will have the effect of reducing the transport charges on consignments to Billingsgate Fish Market, London, and should do much to encourage and develop our export trade in fish. This is an example of what can be achieved by enlightened co-operation amongst our people and I shall always be glad to help local initiative of that sort.
