Vol. 165 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment in Cities.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of unemployed at present in (a) Dublin, (b) Dún Laoghaire, (c) Cork, (d) Waterford, (e) Wexford and (f) Limerick.

The number of persons on the Live Register at the most recent available date (1 February, 1958) at the following local offices of the Department of Social Welfare was: Dublin, 18,574; Dún Laoghaire, 1,245; Cork, 3,892; Waterford, 1,398; Wexford, 761 and Limerick, 3,037.

Will the Taoiseach tell the House if he has any immediate plans to bring about an end to mass unemployment, and will he give the House some indication as to when he intends to get cracking on this question, or will he now admit to the House and the people that he has no intention of solving the question of mass unemployment?

That is a separate question, of course.
