Vol. 165 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Fatal Accident.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether C.I.E. propose to take any steps in order to prevent a recurrence of the fatal accident which occurred last year at the railway gates at Sluicequarter, Kilmorna, County Kerry, and, if so, if he will state what those steps are.

In the case of accommodation level crossings such as the one at Sluicequarter, C.I.E. are required by Statute to provide gates on each side of the railway. I am advised that the gates at this crossing are of adequate width and are adequately set back from the railway. I understand that C.I.E. are considering what steps it might be practicable to take further to facilitate users of level crossings of this kind.
