Vol. 165 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deficits of Voluntary Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Heath if he will state (a) the estimated, and (b) the actual deficits of the voluntary hospitals for each of the years 1947-1956, inclusive, and the payments made in respect of these deficits for each of the years in question.

As the information sought by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

*Includes deficit in respect of St. Luke's Hospital for the first time. In previous years, deficits in this hospital were regarded as payable out of general grant to Comhlachas Ailse na h-Éireann.

The figure for "Estimated Deficit" is that supplied by the hospitals to the Hospitals Commission prior to, or early in the year concerned.

The figure for "Actual Deficit" is the aggregate of the audited figures for the various hospitals, etc., adjusted by the Hospitals Commission in respect of ineligible items.
