Vol. 165 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Volume Index of Production.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of (a) industries producing transportable goods, and (b) all industries, the figures for the volume index of production for each of the four quarters of the years 1955, 1956, and 1957.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a tabular statement showing the volume index of production for industries producing transportable goods for each quarter of 1955 and 1956 and for the first three quarters of 1957. The index number for the fourth quarter of 1957 is not yet available.

The quarterly inquiry does not extend beyond transportable goods industries. Consequently it is not possible to furnish quarterly volume index numbers of production for all industries and services covered by the annual Census of Industrial Production. The volume index number for the year 1955, to base 1953=100, was 107.8. It is estimated that the corresponding figure for the year 1956 was 104 while that for 1957 is not yet available.

Following is the statement:—

INDEX numbers of the volume of production in industries producing transportable goods.
