Vol. 165 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Constructional Works: Proposed Consultation.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received a copy of a resolution passed by the Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation concerning consultation between the Commissioners of Public Works and the corporation in carrying out constructional works which may affect the amenities of Dún Laoghaire; and, if so, if he will arrange for consultations between the Commissioners of Public Works and the Dún Laoghaire Corporation whenever considered necessary.

I have received a copy of the resolution referred to by the Deputy. The Commissioners of Public Works will arrange for consultation with the Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation whenever considered necessary, in regard to constructional works at Dún Laoghaire Harbour.

Is the Minister aware that one of the developments complained of by the Dún Laoghaire Borough Council is work at present being carried out by the Commissioners of Public Works for the provision of essential amenities to users of the mail boat? Is the Minister further aware that the Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation themselves frequently have permitted building on the coastline that interfered with the views of the borough? Furthermore, is the Minister aware of protest meetings that recently took place because of development on the coast line at Vico Road, Dalkey?

One of the works referred to, as the Deputy says, is the provision of additional cover accommodation for cross-Channel passengers which was considered necessary by the Department of Industry and Commerce, Bord Fáilte and British Railways to be done at the moment.
