Vol. 165 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Mayo School Children.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state why the transport of children to Corclough National School and Aughleam National School has been discontinued; and what steps he proposes to take to have these services restored forthwith.

The former contractor for the transport service to Corclough National School ceased to operate the service in May, 1957—it is understood that he left the school district.

The manager of the school obtained fresh tenders for the operation of the service, and a grant has been sanctioned on the basis of the lowest tenders received. The manager was advised to this effect on the 20th February, 1958.

In regard to the transport service to Aughleam National School the contractor has intimated his intention to cease operation of the service unless he got an increase in remuneration. I am not aware that the service has been discontinued but I am having inquiries made.
