Vol. 165 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Industries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any proposals for grants towards the extension or establishment of industries in West Cork are under investigation by his Department and, if so, if he will indicate the position regarding each such application, stating the nature of the project.

The making of grants for industries is the function either of An Foras Tionscal under the Undeveloped Areas Acts, 1952 and 1957, or of the Industrial Development Authority under the Industrial Grants Act, 1956, as may be appropriate according to the location of the industries. These are autonomous bodies and I have no functions in relation to the investigation by them of proposals made to them for grants.

Each of the bodies referred to is required to submit an annual report to be laid on the Table of each House of the Oireachtas, and I do not think that they should be required to supply, in advance of these reports, information of the kind requested by the Deputy.
