Vol. 165 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Omeath—Carlingford Survey.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will have a survey made of the Omeath and Carlingford areas with a view to examining the possibilities of reviving the oyster and mussel trades there.

The areas to which the Deputy refers have been declared to be controlled areas by order of the Minister for Health under the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950, and shellfish taken there may not be sold for human consumption without treatment as approved by the local chief medical officer. As the need for such treatment is an obstacle to trade in oysters and mussels, I do not see how a survey of the areas could help in the matter.
