Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial and Agricultural Employment.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the average number of persons in (a) industrial and (b) agricultural employment in the years 1956 and 1957.

It is estimated that in 1956 the number of persons in industrial employment (including mines, quarries and turf production, building and construction, electricity, gas and water as well as manufacturing industry) was 289,000 and the number in agricultural employment was 440,000. It is provisionally estimated that in 1957 the numbers were 275,000 and 430,000 respectively.
