Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Tyres.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the price of certain tyres has been reduced by 5 per cent. in England and, if so, if he will state whether a similar reduction will be made in this country, and from what date.

The Deputy does not appear to have seen the newspaper announcement last week of a price reduction here, which, I am advised, will maintain the position that tyre prices here are somewhat lower than the prices in England.

May I ask whether the Parliamentary Secretary has made inquiries into the fact that the question he has just answered is a fortnight or more in the general office?

That has nothing to do with the answer I have given. The decision was taken to reduce the price of tyres——

After my question was addressed to the Minister.

The decision to reduce the price of tyres was taken by the company concerned prior to the question being put on the Order Paper.

Is it not a fact that an officer of the Department of Industry and Commerce telephoned Irish Dunlop, Limited immediately the question reached him and that the announcement was made the next day?

Question No. 20.
