Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Medical Cards.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of medical cards issued under the Health Acts at the latest available date and the number of persons covered by such cards.

The latest date for which the information is available is 31st December, 1957. At that date the number of medical cards current was 267,078 which covered 829,884 persons.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of applications received for medical cards and the number refused by each health authority in a recent 12 month period and in the preceding 12 month period.

The information requested by the Deputy is available in my Department in respect of the year ended 31st December, 1957, but not in respect of the previous 12 months.

I have requested health authorities to furnish the necessary particulars and if the Deputy will repeat his question in about three weeks I hope to be in a position to supply the information to him.
