Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Bank: Government Policy.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether it is the policy of the Government to act upon and be guided by the advice of the Central Bank.

The views and advice of the Central Bank, as the monetary authority, are entitled to the fullest consideration and, in fact, receive such consideration from me and from the Government in relation to economic and financial matters. This is not to say that the Central Bank's advice is invariably accepted or acted upon, as wider considerations may have to be taken into account in deciding major questions of national policy.
