Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what estates are at present in the possession of the Land Commission in County Limerick, the acreage involved in each case, when it is anticipated that distribution will take place, what categories of person will be considered for allocation and the order of priority of such categories.

The position regarding lands on hands of the Land Commission in County Limerick is set out in a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated in the Official Report. If no unforeseen difficulties arise it is hoped to allot one quarter of these lands in the next few months.

The attention of the Land Commission was drawn to the amount of lands unallotted in this and some other counties and suitable action is being taken. The selection of allottees is governed by Section 31 of the Land Act, 1923, which sets out the various classes of allottees to whom advances may be made. The following order of priority operates:— displaced employees, evicted tenants, uneconomic holders within one mile of the estate, migrants, trustees for communal purposes, and other categories.

Following is the statement:—

asked the Minister for Lands if a scheme for the division of the balance of the Monsell estate, Tervoe, County Limerick, has been or is being prepared by the Land Commission, and whether the needs of local uneconomic landowners and other qualified persons residing locally have been fully considered.

Arrangements for the disposal of the balance of this estate have not yet been completed but the claims of all eligible local applicants will be fully considered before the lands are allotted.
