Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Period for Trunk Telephone Calls.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider extending the minimum period for trunk calls from three to four minutes to facilitate rural business interests.

The three-minute minimum is in accordance with international convention of long standing. We would only cause needless difficulties for ourselves without any compensating advantage by raising the minimum period as suggested. The question of increasing the minimum charges would also arise.
