Vol. 166 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manufacture of Small-arm Ammunition.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is prepared to make a grant available for the purpose of manufacturing small-arm ammunition, including metallic cartridges used for sport, defence and other purposes, especially in view of the employment content of such an industry and to reimpose the 75 per cent. duty on imported cartridges and ammunition.

Depending on the location of the proposed industry the making of grants for industrial development is the function of An Foras Tionscal under the Undeveloped Areas Acts, 1952 and 1957, or of the Industrial Development Authority under the Industrial Grants Act, 1956.

Any representations which the firm manufacturing shot-gun cartridges may make for the restoration of the suspended customs duty on these articles will be considered.
