Vol. 166 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disposal of West Cork Railway Property.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when C.I.E. propose to dispose of their property on the abandoned line from Skibbereen to Schull.

The sale of the property on the abandoned railway line from Skibbereen to Schull is a matter for C.I.E. Any inquiries should be addressed direct to the board.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary not aware that house property owned by C.I.E. along this line is steadily deteriorating? Is the Parliamentary Secretary not further aware that C.I.E. are most anxious to dispose of this property but are awaiting State legislation to enable them to do so as, under existing legislation, they are precluded from disposing of it? How then does he justify his reply?

That is not a fact. Under the Act of 1950, this portion of the line is now the sole property of C.I.E. It is their business to dispose of the property as they think fit.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that C.I.E. have repeatedly informed me that they are not in a position to dispose of this property, due to legal complications? The property is now deteriorating.

That is different from what the Deputy said in his previous supplementary.

Has an abandonment Order been made?
