Vol. 166 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Passports.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of persons who received new passports to go to employment and permanent residence outside the State in 1954, 1956 and 1957, respectively.

The number of new passports issued to persons going to employment or permanent residence was 6,150 in 1954, 7,601 in 1956 and 11,505 in 1957. In compiling these figures wives included in their husbands' passports are counted separately but children under 16 years of age included in their parents' passports are not counted. In 1957 there were 2,065 children included in their parents' passports. Similar particulars are not available in respect of years prior to 1957.
