Vol. 166 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayfield (Cork) School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the present position in regard to the proposed new school at Mayfield, Cork.

The reverend manager has offered a suitable site for a new national school for senior girls and for infant boys and girls, to be erected in the Mayfield area of Cork City. Sketch plans for the new school have been prepared by the reverend manager's architect and have been approved by the Commissioners of Public Works and by my Department, subject to certain revisions. When the necessary revision of the plans has been carried out, my Department will communicate with the reverend manager regarding the further preliminary arrangements which will require to be made before a grant towards the cost of the new school can be sanctioned. These arrangements will take some time to complete and I am unable to say at present when my Department will be in a position to sanction a grant in the case.
