Vol. 167 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Servants' Salaries.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he proposes to grant any increase to civil servants who do not come within the scheme of conciliation and arbitration; and, if so, if he will state the amount of the proposed increase and the date from which it will be made payable.

The two main categories of civil servant which do not come within the scheme of conciliation and arbitration are industrial civil servants in all grades and non-industrial civil servants in certain grades. Increases in the pay of industrial civil servants are governed by increases granted to their counterparts in outside employment. I have not yet come to a decision regarding the grant of an increase in pay to non-industrial grades who do not come within the scheme.

Would the Minister say whether he is examining this question?

I intend to examine it as soon as possible.
