Vol. 167 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pensioners in Government Positions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of ex-Army pensioners who are employed in Government positions and who are drawing a pension of £5 or over a week.

The information requested by the Deputy is available in respect of retired officers only.

There are 16 retired officers employed in Government Departments who are in receipt (after abatement where appropriate) of retired pay of £5 or over a week under the Defence Forces (Pensions) Schemes, 1937 to 1957.

Abatement is in accordance with Article 15 of the Defence Forces (Pensions) Scheme, 1937, which provides that remuneration payable out of public moneys plus retired pay shall not exceed the pay of such officer immediately prior to his retirement.
