asked the Minister for Finance if he will state how much the Government will spend in 1958-59 of each pound it collects on the following categories and sub-categories: (A) debt service, Army and Garda Siochána: (i) debt service, (ii) Army, (iii) Garda Siochána; (B) social services, employment schemes and education: (i) social assistance, (ii) social insurance, (iii) employment schemes and administration of social services, (iv) health, (v) education; (C) agriculture, fisheries and land division; (D) transport: (i) payment to Road Fund, (ii) advances to C.I.E. and G.N.R.; (E) superannuation and (F) miscellaneous.

The following figures have been calculated from the detail available in the published Budget estimates. They are approximations; in arriving at them various attributions are made some of which are indicated in the notes below.

NOTES.

(1) Debt Service is taken as including contributions to loan charges of local authorities, Exchequer contributions to servicing of Land Bonds, repayment to Central Fund of advances to meet interest payments on Transport Stocks and Telephone Capital repayments.

(2) Agriculture is taken as including rural improvement schemes (Vote 10), Agricultural Grant and Roinn na Gaeltachta.

(3) Superannuation is taken as including Army, Military Service and Garda Pensiors.
