Vol. 167 No. 11

Written Answers. - Capital Productive Expenditure.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state for 1951-52 and each subsequent financial year the amount of capital productive expenditure (actual up to 1957-58 and estimated for 1958-59) under the following headings: (a) (1) electricity development, (2) turf development, (3) agricultural development, (4) afforestation, (5) fisheries, (6) telephone, (7) transport, (8) industrial credit, (9) Mianraí Teoranta, (10) Min-Fhéir Teoranta, (11) Ceimicí Teoranta, (12) Alginate Industries, (13) trade loans, (14) National Development Fund expenditure, (15) C.I.E. and (16) other headings (naming them); (b) the total of each heading through these years; (c) the total each year; (d) the total capital expenditure and (e) the percentage of such productive expenditure to total capital expenditure.

In the absence of an agreed and precise definition of "capital productive expenditure", I cannot give the information requested by the Deputy. As regards the difficulty of arriving at a definition, may I refer the Deputy to the reply given to Deputy D. Larkin on 19th February, 1958 (Dáil Debates, Volume 165, columns 341, 342)?
