Vol. 167 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abbeyleix Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (a) the reason for the downgrading of Abbeyleix Post Office to the status of a sub-office, (b) whether all future services will be up to the standard of the past services rendered by the Post Office authorities, (c) whether he has received protests in this connection, and (d) what he proposes to do in the matter.

The answers to the four parts of the question are:—

(a) Abbeyleix Post Office is being converted to sub-office status because the volume of business transacted is not sufficient to warrant the present more expensive method of staffing; (b) a fully satisfactory service will continue to be afforded; (c) some inquiries, but no protests, have reached me; (d) it is hoped to establish the sub-office shortly.
