Vol. 167 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Status of Untrained Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has yet completed his consideration of the question of allowing untrained teachers who have been teaching for a stated prolonged period to become recognised as being of trained teacher status.

I have not under consideration the question of according the status of trained teacher to untrained teachers.

In reply to a Parliamentary Question, the Minister said he would be prepared to give the matter some consideration.

I did give it some thought, but I then decided it was not a matter with which I should be further concerned. I may say that, in 1955, it was the subject of arbitration before an arbitration board and it was then rejected. It was only then I found out for the first time that that had occurred.
