Vol. 168 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Flats.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the position existing at the present time with regard to the construction of flats in the following areas in Dublin City: (a) Vicar Street, (b) Digges Street and (c) Bridgefoot Street, indicating in each case when work is likely to commence.

Dublin Corporation have requested my approval to an agreement being negotiated with a firm of contractors for the erection at Vicar Street of 54 flat-dwellings instead of 70 as originally proposed. The matter is under consideration in my Department and I cannot indicate yet when work on the scheme is likely to commence.

Plans for a scheme of 104 flats at Mercer Street-Digges Street were approved by me on the 23rd ultimo. I am informed by the housing authority that working drawings are now being prepared and that it is hoped that building work will be commenced before the end of the present year.

I also understand that revised sketch plans for a scheme of flats at Bridgefoot Street have been prepared and will shortly be considered by the Housing Committee of Dublin Corporation. It is not possible at this stage to indicate when work is likely to commence on the scheme.
