Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport Acts.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of Transport Acts passed by the Oireachtas since 1922 dealing with (a) rail transport and (b) road transport; and if he will give the dates of commencement of operation of these Acts and the numbers employed under headings (a) and (b) on these dates, respectively.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate a tabular statement with the Official Report giving the information that is available to me.

*(1) Statistics showing the numbers employed at the dates the various Transport Acts came into operation are not available.

(2) The numbers employed on rail transport and road freight transport are based on statistics for a selected week in March of each year.

(3) The numbers employed on road passenger services are based on the average of statistics for selected weeks in February and August of each year.

(4) The numbers employed on road passenger transport comprise the road omnibus passenger services of the public transport undertakings and other operators.

(5) The numbers employed on road freight transport comprise the public transport undertakings only. Statistics are not available for the numbers employed by other concerns.
