Vol. 168 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - No. 54 (Dublin) Bus Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the provisions of the licence granted by him to C.I.E. preclude the company from extending their No. 54 bus service to Blackbanks.

The licence under which C.I.E. operate their No. 54 omnibus service terminating in Killester does not authorise them to extend the service to Blackbanks. The provision of a service to Blackbanks is a matter for C.I.E. and the G.N.R. Board to consider in the first instance. If the undertakings are prepared to provide a service the necessary licence will be forthcoming.

Is the Minister aware that the present service operated by the G.N.R. to Howth is completely inadequate to cater for the needs of the people who reside in the areas in between and, in these circumstances, would he consider requesting the G.N.R. and the Board of C.I.E. to get together and between them provide something like an adequate service for these people?

I suggest that the Deputy should take the matter up with these organisations himself.
