Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Spirits, Beer, Cider and Wine for Home Consumption.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of (a) proof gallons of spirits (b) standard barrels of beer (c) gallons of cider and (d) gallons of wine retained for home consumption in the calendar year 1957.

The following are the particulars of the quantities of spirits, beer, wine and cider (including perry) retained for home consumption in the calendar year 1957:—

(a) Spirits (excluding deliveries for methylation)

777,017 proof gallons

(b) Beer

881,455 standard barrels

(c) Wine

535,198 gallons

(d) Cider and Perry

807,210 gallons

Separate statistics of cider and perry are not officially recorded. The total quantity under this head consists almost entirely of cider.
