Vol. 168 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Advisers: Produce Sales Campaign in Britain.

andMr. Collins asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (i) the number of trade advisers and assistant trade advisers recruited by Córas Tráchtála Teoranta within the past year and (ii) their respective names, academic qualifications and business experience.

andMr. Collins asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if Córas Tráchtála Teoranta will recruit additional trade advisers in order to intensify the sales campaign in the British market for Irish butter and dairy produce.

andMr. Collins asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if Coras Tráchtála Teoranta will arrange discussions with the Central Council of Irish County Associations in Great Britain with a view to determining the degree of co-operation it is prepared to give in a concentrated Irish butter and dairy produce sales campaign among Irish emigrants in British cities.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to reply to Questions Nos. 2, 3 and 4 together.

The two questions on the recruitment of staff by Córas Tráchtála relate to matters of day-to-day administration in which I do not intervene. Córas Tráchtála Teranta have been given general responsibilities with regard to the promotion of the sale of Irish goods in Britain but their detailed arrangements are not subject to my prior approval. The Deputies are no doubt aware that the marketing of creamery butter exports is one for the Butter Marketing Committee, established by the Minister for Agriculture, and also that the Minister for Agriculture appointed, last December, an Advisory Committee on the Marketing of Agricultural Produce which is at present engaged in a comprehensive study of the markets and marketing arrangements for agricultural produce.
