Vol. 168 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rearranged Mayo Holdings: Housing of Tenants.

asked the Minister for Lands, if in view of the fact that the Land Commission have practically finished the rearranging and striping of the Carter and Shaw Estate, Tallagh, Belmullet, County Mayo, he will now sanction the erection of new houses and out-offices to enable the tenants concerned who are living in derelict houses to occupy their new homes before the winter; and if he will state the number and total cost of the houses and out-offices which it is estimated are necessary for this purpose.

In connection with the rearrangement of ten holdings at present being carried out by the Land Commission in the townland of Tallagh, it is estimated that the provision of six new dwellinghouses and eight new out-offices will be necessary, in addition to the repair of two existing dwellinghouses. The total estimated cost of the buildings is in the region of £6,000. Building work cannot commence until consent to the rearrangement proposals is forthcoming from all of the tenants involved. It is, therefore, in the interest of those tenants who have not yet signified their agreement to the rearrangement to cooperate as much as possible with the Land Commission in the matter.
