Vol. 168 No. 6

Written Answers. - Agricultural Wages Board Orders.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in the interests of economic administration, he will amend the Agricultural Wages Districts and Areas Order, 1937 (No. 75), so that, when the Agricultural Wages Board propose to make or amend an order which affects only one county or district, the appropriate Agricultural Wages Area Committee shall consist only of the representatives of agricultural workers and agricultural employers appointed in respect of the county or district concerned.

The Deputy's suggestion seems to be that there should be a separate wages area constituted for each wages district or county. I do not accept the view that this arrangement would be less costly than the existing one. I can see no adequate ground for taking action on the lines suggested.
