All imports of anthracite coal in the three years 1955-57 were of British origin. The quantity and value imported each year was as follows: 70,535 tons for £486,602 in 1955; 56,617 tons for £500,950 in 1956; and 41,953 tons for £407,892 in 1957.

The quantity of anthracite coal produced in Ireland in each of the years 1955, 1956 and 1957 was 137,466 tons, 153,049 tons and 160,641 tons respectively.
