Vol. 168 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Kerry Coal Deposits.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a coal seam is believed to exist in the Rathee Mountcoal area, North Kerry; and if a comprehensive geological survey of the area will be made as soon as possible with a view to ascertaining whether coal deposits suitable for commercial exploitation exist there.

I am advised that there is a coal seam in the area, but that, owing to its narrowness, it is unlikely that it could be worked economically. Adequate geological information is already available in regard to these coal deposits and will be supplied by the Geological Survey Office to anyone who may be interested.
