Vol. 168 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Legislation on Elections.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state as regards elections and election petitions the Short Titles of pre-1922 statutes now in force relating to (a) Dáil elections and (b) local elections.

There is a large number of pre-1922 statutes relating to elections still on the statute book. Many of these are obsolete or are repealed by implication in later legislation. It is intended to clarify the position in legislation which is in course of preparation. I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a list of these pre-1922 statutes which are still regarded as effective.

Following is the list:—

Dáil Elections.

The Parliamentary Writs Act, 1813.

The Election Commissioners Act, 1852.

The Parliamentary Elections Act, 1868.

The Corrupt Practices Commission Expenses Act, 1869.

The Parliamentary Elections and Corrupt Practices Act, 1879.

The Corrupt and illegal Practices Prevention Act, 1883.

Local Elections.

The Ballot Act, 1872.

The Municipal Corporations Act, 1882.

The Municipal Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Practices) Act, 1884.

The Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898.

The Representation of the People Act, 1918.

The Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1919.
