Vol. 168 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing in Ballycumber (Offaly).

asked the Minister for Local Government what steps will be taken with his sanction by the Offaly County Council to provide houses for 12 families (names supplied) at present living in the Ballycumber area under crowded and unhygienic conditions.

I understand that two of the 12 applicants listed by the Deputy have already been selected as tenants for rural cottages now being built, three others are prospective tenants for the cottages to be built in Ballycumber and one is living in a repairable dwelling. The other six names do not appear on the list of current applicants for rehousing recently furnished to my Department by the housing authority and it appears accordingly that applications from these persons were not before the county council when proposals for the provision of cottages in this area were recently being formulated.
