Vol. 169 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Airport: Recruitment of Workers.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware of the uneasiness that exists amongst farmers and industrialists in the vicinity of the proposed Cork airport lest the development of the site and the subsequent building operations may attract employees from their present occupations; and, if so, whether he will ensure that the operatives required for this project will be recruited from the local employment exchanges.

I am not aware of the uneasiness referred to in the first part of the question. With regard to the second part, I have no power to compel employers to recruit their workers through the local offices of my Department.
