Vol. 169 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Conditions in Mayo School.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the overcrowded and generally poor condition of the national school at Shranamonragh, Ballycroy, County Mayo; and when it is proposed to begin work on the new school already sanctioned.

I am aware that the existing national school at Shranamonragh, Ballycroy, County Mayo, is overcrowded and that it is in poor condition generally. A suitable site for a new school has been offered by the reverend manager and the Commissioners of Public Works have now furnished sketch plans of the school. My Department is in communication with the reverend manager in regard to certain arrangements which will have to be made before a grant towards the cost of the erection of the school can be sanctioned. I am unable to say at present when building operations will be commenced but I can assure the Deputy that every effort is being made and will continue to be made to expedite matters.
