Vol. 169 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Wage Rates.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the weekly rates of wages required as at mid-May, 1958, to equal the value of the minimum rates fixed by the Agricultural Wages Board for each of the wages areas with effect from 28th May, 1956.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the information required. The weekly wage rates shown in this statement for (a) males and (b) females represent the statutory minima prescribed under the Agricultural Wages (Minimum Rates) Order, 1956, adjusted (to the nearest penny) in proportion to the change in the consumer price index between mid-May, 1956 (the nearest date to 28th May, 1956, for which the index was computed) and mid-May, 1958.

Following is the statement:—

(a) "Adjusted" minimum wage rates for male agricultural workers for a "week in which 50 hours' work is done (exclusive of work on Sunday or weekly half-holiday)".
