Vol. 169 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment for Soldiers During Pre-Discharge Leave.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will arrange that non-commissioned officers and privates who are granted pre-discharge leave from the Defence Forces will be permitted to take up civilian employment if they can secure it during their pre-discharge leave.

There is nothing to prevent non-commissioned officers and privates of the permanent Defence Force who are on pre-discharge leave from taking up civilian employment provided it does not involve any double payment from State funds in respect of the same period of time.

If officers, N.C.O.s and men on pre-discharge leave can secure an offer of employment during the currency of the leave, may I take it that they will be permitted to receive whatever allowances they would normally be entitled to up to the end of the period of pre-discharge leave?

Yes; that is correct.
