Vol. 170 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Turbary in Clare.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission propose to acquire turbary for distribution among people in the Quilty and Mullagh postal districts, County Clare.

Already this season the Land Commission have provided turbary rights for 193 families in West Clare and the allotment of a further 71 rights is proceeding.

Whilst the Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of turbary in the immediate vicinity of the districts referred to, they have on hands some 227 acres of turbary about ten miles away. Proposals for the disposal of this bog have not yet been prepared but when they are being formulated the needs of tenants in Quilty and Mullagh districts will be considered.

The Land Commission recently investigated the possibility of acquiring a further area of about 650 acres in West Clare but acquisition did not materialise.
