Vol. 170 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laoighis County Council Employees: Hearing of Wage Claims.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that employees of Laoighis County Council cannot obtain wage increases because of the delay of the Labour Court in hearing their case; and if he will ask the Labour Court to hear the case and issue its findings, as grave hardship is being experienced by the workers concerned who feel that they have a just claim.

It is the function of the Labour Court to conduct their investigatory and conciliation activities in the manner they consider most likely to lead to the settlement of trade disputes.

I understand that, in this particular case, the court has, in consultation with the trade union concerned, been endeavouring to facilitate a negotiated settlement.
