Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Medical Association: Presidential Address.

Mr. Brady

asked the Taoiseach whether his attention has been drawn to reports of the presidential address delivered at the recent annual general meeting of the Irish Medical Association; and, if so, whether there is any evidence which would indicate that, as is stated in those reports, there has been a lowering of standards in the making of local appointments to medical posts or that the findings of interview boards for the filling of such posts have been rejected in favour of low-placed candidates with political or administrative backing as against professional standing.

My attention has been drawn to the reports mentioned by the Deputy.

I am aware of no evidence whatever that would substantiate the statements, referred to by the Deputy, which are reported to have been made by the president of the Irish Medical Association. I should add that neither am I aware that the president of that association has submitted to the authorities concerned any evidence whatever that would substantiate those statements.
