asked the Taoiseach if he will state the weekly rates of wages required as at mid-May, 1958, to equal the value of the minimum rates fixed by the Agricultural Wages Board for female workers as and from 1st March, 1954.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Female Agricultural Workers' Wages.
I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the information required in respect of Counties Dublin and Kildare. Minimum rates of wages have not been prescribed for female agricultural workers employed outside of these counties. The weekly wage rates shown in the statement represent the statutory minimum rates prescribed under the Agricultural Wages (Minimum Rates) Order, 1954, adjusted in proportion to the change in the Consumer Price Index between mid-February, 1954 (the nearest date to 1st March, 1954, for which the index was computed) and mid-May, 1958.
Following is the statement:—
"Adjusted" minimum wage rates for female agricultural workers for a "week in which 48 hours' work is done (exclusive of work on Sunday or weekly half-holiday)."
