Vol. 170 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Generation at E.S.B. Stations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state for the year ended 31st March, 1958 (or if not available, the latest year for which such information is available) what would have been the total cost of generation per unit for each E.S.B. generating station (or if not available for every station, for such as are available) on the hypothetical basis of each such station having equal priority to supply demand.

The information sought has been obtained from the E.S.B. and is set out in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statment:—

NOTE. — It will be noted that standby station, hydro stations and stations commissioned during the year have not been included above. Equal priority cannot be given to water stations or to steam stations commissioned during the year. In the case of stations commissioned during the year fixed charges are not fully recorded and, consequently, the cost per unit cannot be calculated.

They are calculated on the following basis:

(1) omitting hydro generated units,

(2) omitting stations commissioned during the year,

(3) omitting standby station,

(4) giving equal priority to remaining fully-commissioned steam stations.

Information relating to the year ended 31st March, 1958 is not yet available.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary propose to offer any apology on behalf of the Minister for not having included it in the previous question, as he was asked to do?

There is no need to offer an apology.

If the Parliamentary Secretary looks at the report he will see there is one due. It was ignored.

It is a different question.

I beg the Parliamentary Secretary's pardon; it is exactly the same question but the Minister did not answer it.

It is a different question.
