Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Incidence of Paralytic Poliomyelitis.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the total number of children infected with paralytic poliomyelitis up to June of 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1958.

The number of cases of paralytic poliomyelitis notified to my Department up to the 30th June in each of the years 1955 to 1958 inclusive was 15 in 1955, 44 in 1956, 74 in 1957 and 89 in 1958. The figure for 1958 is provisional. For the Deputy's further information I may add that the number of cases in the whole of the State reported in each of the complete years 1955, 1956 and 1957 were—119, 499 and 148 respectively.
