Vol. 170 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Production of Early Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that a group of farmers (names supplied) in the Farmers' Association have guaranteed to grow the supplies required according to his Department's statistics to meet the total requirements of the home market for early potatoes in 1959, he will give an assurance that no licences will be granted in 1959 for the importation of early potatoes, so that these farmers may be able to prepare the required acreage and obtain and sprout the early seed in August next.

It has been and is the policy of my Department not to permit the importation of early potatoes when home supplies are sufficient to meet the demand.
