Vol. 170 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cotton Printers, Galway: Labour Recruitment.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether consideration was given to the method of recruiting labour for Cotton Printers, Galway, before the recent decision to impose an import duty was made.

I have no function in regard to the methods by which commercial firms recruit labour and accordingly the answer to the Deputy's question is in the negative.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that it was due to political interference that one of the leading technicians resigned from that firm and would he see that there is less of such political interference?

The recruitment of labour is purely a matter for the private company concerned, as it is for any other type of company.

In view of the large amount of public moneys involved, why was the local labour exchange not asked for recruits?

That is a matter for the private company and not for the Minister.
