Vol. 171 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erne Estuary Fishermen.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will amend the relevant by-law to enable draft net fisherment to resume the earning of their livelihood in the Erne estuary during the coming fishing season.

The by-law to which the Deputy refers is no longer in force. It was made for the one season only and ceased to be effective after the 30th September, 1958. A fresh appraisal of the situation taking all the relevant circumstances into account will be made before the next fishing season with a view to deciding whether it may be necessary to reimpose some form of restriction in the interests of the future stocks of fish in the Erne river system.

The remaining questions will be on to-morrow's Order Paper.

May I put a point of view? I do not know but I believe it is intended to take the vote on the Private Members' Motion at 5 o'clock to-morrow. I do not know how many questions are put down for to-morrow, but it is possible there may be 90 or 100 which might take us up to 4.45.

So far, there are 17.

Therefore, there is no difficulty.
